Facebook Launches Graph Search – A Social Search Engine
0Facebook called an event yesterday on January 15, 2013 and announced their new feature. Facebook is calling it the third pillar of the Facebook, other two are News Feed and Timeline. This new pillar for Facebook is named as Graph Search. Now you must be wondering that it’s a new search engine but it’s not completely true about the Graph Search.
What Can I Search on Graph Search?
Graph Search is a new search engine of Facebook using which you can search social connections, photos, news, places, etc. All the data which Facebook has right now of millions of people now is used in Graph Search. So it’s not a web search but it is connected with Microsoft’s Bing search engine that will be used to show results in case you don’t find any appropriate results via Graph Search.
When we want to look for our friend’s photos or any related information then we have to check out their timeline. This way a lot of time is wasted because we have to navigate to our each and every friend’s profile. Now with Graph Search you just have to type in the query and result will be in front of you with information related to your connections. Graph search is available now in beta and it will be soon launch and added to the Facebook as its third pillar.
You can do any search and the search result will have information based on your connections, friends, etc. For example you can search following search terms with Graph Search.
Friends who like The Batman.
Photos before 1990.
Photos of my close friends.
Photos I like.
Photos ‘my friend’ like.

These are the few terms which you can search on Graph Search and the result will be in front of you based on all your personal info, your connections and the personal info of your connections. A filter will also be provided at the right hand side using which you can filter the search result as per your requirements.

This is how this social search engine ‘Graph Search’ will work. Now you must be wondering that using this people may look into your personal information and photographs but Facebook has integrated your privacy settings with it. If you have made something private then no one can see it. There are no changes in the privacy settings and terms and you can change the photos, info, posts you share on Facebook from your Activity log.

Availability
Graph Search is currently available in the beta version but soon it will be live for all users. When Graph search will be applied then the top blue bar in Facebook will be changed as it will be having the third pillar i.e. the Graph Search. In starting it will be available for English users and then Facebook will work on it to add more languages. You can view the demo of Graph search and join the waiting list there. So this is what a new social search engine is presented by Facebook. This tool can be used for requirements processes as well.
