How To : Disabling JAVA From Your PC For Better Security
3Hi readers, did you hear about it? After sometimes they have launched the Java SE 7 Update 6, amazingly Krebs on Security has discovered another major vulnerability. In addition, the mentioned vulnerability can hardly confuse users in the case of security because the vulnerability increases the chance of one malware attack. Therefore, sadly, this vulnerability affects most of internet browsers, which use Java Plugins. Initial reports have stated that the exploit works against all versions of Internet Explorer, Opera and Opera Web Browser while Google Chrome has escaped from the list of ones that influenced by the exploit. But when assuming the statements of Rapid 7 is true, there is a Metasploit module which will turn this exploit against your very familiar Chrome.
Surprisingly, the Java update is not able to Influence the great Macintosh by Apple. The reason is so simple that Version of Java that installed on latest version of Mac is 6 and not 7. Therefore, if Mac users want their PCs vulnerable, they have to update to version 6.The most worst thing is that no next regularly scheduled update planned until upcoming October and this fact makes us doubtful about how the company will reply to this issue and how they can improve the security of their product.
But you don’t have to fear that much because some Java experts are developing an unofficial patch for Java in order to get rid of this damn issue. In addition, 99% of valid sources suggest us to disable the Java plug-in and the whole framework if possible if we are not using it actively on our PC. Whatever the decision of the company is, we can’t compromise with security loopholes in our PC and here we’ll tell you how to disable Java plug-ins in your PC (Mainly in Web Browsers) in order to get rid of this dangerous vulnerability. You have to notice something on un-installing the whole framework or only plug-in.
- If you are not a user of JAVA Based Application and you do not need to browse Java required pages in websites, then you can simply remove the whole framework for more security.
- If you are a regular user of Applications that require JAVA in your computer, you should not remove the whole framework but the plug-ins that are included in Browsers.
- If you do not use Java based Applications but occasionally use Java Plug-ins for a specified websites, then you can disable the plug-in in most used Browser and enable it in an alternative browser so that you can use the alternate browser for visiting Java required websites.
