Hi Geeks, it’s a post for you. We have been using the word ‘Geek’ for years for representing ourselves and for mentioning a hardcore interest in a specific tech related topic (For example, Android Geek). According to our main and reliable source Wikipedia,
The word geek is a slang term for odd or non-mainstream people, with different connotations ranging from “a computer expert or enthusiast” to “a person heavily interested in a hobby”, with a general pejorative meaning of “a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, especially one who is perceived to be overly intellectual”.
Each and every person who loves technology and having a strong interest to it can be represented by ‘Geek.’ Because of that fact, each improvement in tech world is contributed by a Geek. Upcoming geeks have to inspire from them and study about them since its part of ‘Geekism.’ And so here, HFG is giving you a list of 10 Famous Geeks who made their awesome contributions to the tech world.
NB. This list is out of your expectations and no people like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Sergey Brin, or Mark Zuckerberg will be here. We know they are also highly talented geeks cum tech emperors but here, we are taking a piece of history and bringing a list of people from whom you should inspire and whom you should follow in order to achieve ultimate success.
Why He? : Invented Turing Machine (Second Place), Effect on getting out of Second World War (First Place) : Wikipedia.
We weren’t able to do a post on Alan Turing’s Birthday on which our mighty Google dedicated an interactive doodle about Alan Turing and Turing Machine. Do you know why? The awesome man is known as the Father of Computer Science. He was the very same man who made great contributions to the idea of Artificial Intelligence that reached SIRI and Google Voice. Turing Machine is the main contribution of Alan Turing which is also the first form of modern computer algorithm.
Something Interesting: Alan Turing was criminally prosecuted for homosexuality in 1952 and further he committed suicide. After a long time, Gordon Brown had issued a public apology in 2009 for that cruel prosecution. Dead body of Alan Turing was found near to a half-eaten Apple (Do you think the apple was taken by Steve Jobs to make Apple’s logo: D? But Steve Jobs had remarked that there is no homage to Turing but added that “It isn’t true but God, we wish it were”)
Bob Kahn & Vint Cerf
Why? : The very same reason by which HFG is here and I am writing this post. They are the main head which gave form to internet with a title ‘A Protocol for Packet Network Interconnection.’ Need more: About Bob Kahn and About Vint Cerf
We mentioned and read about father of computer science and the next chance is for Father Of Internet which has become a habit for most of us. Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn are the inventors of TCP/IP suite for communication protocols. And as you may know, these communication protocols are the backbones of our internet and related services. Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP) is currently used in order to use a global spread connection.
Tim Berners Lee
Why? : Inventor of World Wide Web. For More: Wikipedia
If you are known about Internet and its related services, surely you should be aware about World Wide Web (WWW) which was established by Tim Berners Lee. During his works in CERN, he thought about a idea that can allow researchers to share information and data across internet via hypertext documents. Even his aim was to info exchange between scientists; gradually it headed to a global interconnected network what we represent as www today. Tim Berners Lee is also the inventor of First Web Browser, first Web Editor, and also First Website at CERN.
Something Interesting: Interest to technology and talent is one of his inheritances. His father Conway Berners Lee and mother Mary Lee was in the team which developed Ferranti Mark 1, the world’s first commercial electronic computer device.
Ralph H. Baer
Why? : Considered as Father of Video Games for his great contributions For More: Wikipedia
Ralph H. Baer was the one who developed the Brown Box which is the first home video console. He also developed the first light gun and brought in cartridges as part of console games. And we can’t complete this list because we are very much attracted to video games and consoles.
Something Interesting: Ralph H Baer was a television engineer by profession
Why? : Creator of Email : Wikipedia
When internet and WWW was in its way to open a great way of information sharing, Ray Tomlinson converted the art of letter writing to the world of internet by inventing email. The email had humble beginnings when it was sent from one machine to another which was next to it. Later other emailing protocols were established and such a new way of communication was introduced.
Something Interesting: The very familiar symbol ‘@’ was used by Ray Tomlinson in order to represent the building from which the computer is being used.
Why? : Creator of ‘C’ programming language and UNIX Operating System : Wikipedia
Without including Dennis Ritchie, the post will not be complete and tech world won’t let me to complete it. Because as you may know, Dennis Ritchie is the inventor of ‘C’ programming language without which our software field is empty. There is no accordance with hardware in the case of C Programming. And I don’t think you need more data on Dennis Ritchie
Something Interesting: C Programming language was authored by Dennis Ritchie along with Brian Kernighan and they were the same to introduce ‘Hello World’ programme which is now being used as a starting programme in all languages.
We know that the article isn’t complete. But hope you have got an overall idea about geeks who changed the total geek world and open awesome internet related services to us. Do you think any others deserve this place that has made such contributions? Free feel to shout it in comment boxes.
