According to Pocket Lint which is a technology website, the nanotech spray, called HZO tech, is so water-resistant that users can fully submerge their phones in water without any ill effects. The HZO tech, developed by a company of the same name, adds a nanoscale film barrier with special liquid-repellent properties to handsets during the manufacturing process.

HZO demonstrated its credentials at the Consumer Electronics Show, dunking an enhanced iPhone into a tank of water repeatedly.

What HzO does is create a nano-scale film barrier with a special water repelling properties that is applied to the inside of a device, with those two companies specializing in smartphones.

Instead of creating a case or sealant, this technology will be applied to the smartphone during the manufacturing process making it waterproof as soon as it is taken out of its box.

This technology was created by a company named ZAGG that introduced it at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. ZAGG demoed it by using devices with HzO applied to them previously and dunked them into a fish tank full of water. The technology allowed them to continue to work despite the fact that they were literally swimming with the fishes.

ZAGG is hoping to sign big deals with all leading manufacturers, according to a report posted by Pocket-lint. The company did mention that they were in the process of signing deals with a major smartphone partner and headphones maker in the near future.”We showed the Samsung Chairman the technology with a Samsung Galaxy S that we had coated with HZO and he couldn’t believe his eyes,” the HZO spokesperson told Pocket-Lint.

According to Pocket-lint, however, some major brands might be putting the technology in upcoming devices. HzO — which demonstrated its superhydrophobic waterproof coating on phones at this year’s CES — says that Samsung is “really excited” by the technology. It says it’s also talked with Apple about making a waterproof iPhone 5. While we’re not sure who will end up licensing the waterproofing, HzO says that “We expect HzO to be in next season’s phones.”
