But to amaze, you find out that by the time you leave your office, there is hardly any power left in your phone to have fun with the applications or to spend time on any of the social networking websites. Your current phone settings may be taking a toll of the battery and you need to optimize the settings to get more out of your new gadget. Google too had no intention of keeping things simple with Android and it might end up being a challenging task to get all the settings right to maximize the battery life. We will discuss such tweaks and techniques below to help you to increase the longevity of your device.
Activate android power strip
Android power strip is a built-in widget that comes with android and will save you a lot of headache. You won’t have to meddle with all the settings as it changes them automatically. It will help you disconnect wi-fi, bluetooth and GPS with a single click. In case it is still not installed on your phone long press on the screen and install it via the widgets category.
Use task manager to turn off unnecessary apps
Task manager will let you know who is sucking life out of your device. There are plenty of program monitoring widgets available that will help you in doing so. There are apps such as Taskiller that help you in getting rid of the unnecessary processes running in the background.
Set screen brightness to auto
Your display can end up using most of the power of your device in case it is not turned off when required. Setting it to auto would help light-sensors in deciding the optimum level of back-lighting required. In case you’re wondering where you would find the settings head into the display menu.
Avoid live wallpapers
Wallpapers might bring your display to life but they consume considerable resources and also make desktop scrolling difficult with time. A plain background will not be that exciting but will save you the power for doing a lot more fun with your phone.
Remove unnecessary home screen widgets
You install a number of widgets to check out how they work on your device, but with time some of them become obsolete and are still a part of your screen. Remove such unnecessary widgets especially the ones that poll status updates in the background.
Turn 3G off
Most android devices these days are 3G enabled and people forget to disable the feature after they are done browsing the internet, or watching videos, or chatting with one of their friends. This can drain the resources of your phone so you must care to turn it off every time you’re done using it.
Reduce polling from mails and other social networking sites
Your device has to keep running these apps in the background all the time, whether or not you receive the latest update from one of your friends or a mail from your boss. Changing the settings to manual for these messaging apps will help you save the battery life.
Disable adobe flash
We don’t ask you to disable the adobe flash forever, but in case you’re running out of battery it would be a good decision to turn it off. To do so go to the Settings->Enable Plug-Ins and set them to on-demand.
Update the applications you frequently use
Your app might get an update, which is more battery friendly and uses lesser resources. Update the applications you frequently use to improve performance of your phone as well as its battery life.
