Keyword Research the right way!

54
  • by Sumit Gupta+

  • — 3 Jan, 2012

Yesterday I thought of Buying a domain for my micro niche blog, but the first thought that crept in my mind is what keyword should i choose or which keyword would bring me money!

After lot of research,I couldn’t even find a single post which could explain Keyword Research in deep! so finally decided that i would write my experience itself and help others do Keyword Research the Right way!

Softwares/Services you need for Keyword Research!

1}Firefox Browser{Would tell you why only firefox}

2}Google Keyword Reseacrh tool

3}SEO Quake addon for firefox

4}Spyfu

So to start with Start your Firefox browser

Install SEO Quake Addon, if you haven’t done it already!

SEO quake Keyword Research the right way!

After you have installed SEO Quake restart your Firefox Browser,

Now Jump to Google Keyword Research Tool

Now research for keyword’s that you need! In this case i am taking “Car Insurance” as a Keyword

Car insurance Keyword Research the right way!

You can see that the keyword has High Competion which means that the keyword has high Cost Per Click{CPC},so these keyword would be great and would give us decnt amount of money.

Car Insurance has approx 7,480,000 Global searches monthly and 1,500,00 US Local Monthly searches which is just awesome, but we wont choose this keyword because its competion is pretty high.

The above traffic detail is for broad traffic, but to get exact traffic detail we need to check mark Exact in Google Keyword tool!

When i check mark Exact option the traffc result comes down to 823,000 Searches Globally and 135,000 Searches Locally which is quite a good number!

Make sure that the keyword you choose must atleast have Exact Local Monthly Searches >=1000 {Greater then 1000}

Now The Most Important  Part

Google the keyword that you choosed from Keyword tool

Since you have already installed SEO quake Addon in firefox, you would be able to see this type of toolbar below every Search

SEO quake1 Keyword Research the right way!

What this SEO Quake toolbar does is that it shows quite a lot of information related about that websites like Page Rank,Indexed Pages,Alexa Rank,Bing Rank etc etc!

Now all you need to do is just Add PR of the top 10 Result that you get for your Keyword, like for  ”Car Insurance” keyword  its total of  60

Car insurance1 Keyword Research the right way!

Now take avarage out that total

Average PR Keyword Research the right way!

If the average PR comes out to be

Below 3,then you have hit a jackpot

Between 3-5,then you need to work a little harder but you can achieve high ranking!

If its above 5,better you choose or find other keyword

In this case, the average PR is 6 which is quite high,so its better that i choose another keyword

Now the last part is about CPC{Cost Per Click}

while doing Keyword Research make sure that you select keyword which has CPC of atleast 1$ i.e whenever someone click on your ads you would get 1$!

For finding CPC i use Spyfu

spyfu1 Keyword Research the right way!

All you need to do now is just enter your keyword in “Enter a Domain OR Keyword Below” box and search

This is what i got for Car Insurance Keyword

SPYFU search Keyword Research the right way!

You can see that the CPC is quite high which is good but since the keyword has High Competion and High Average PR i wont choose that keyword!

The reson why i choosed Firefox and not any other browser because SEO quake Addon is only available for Firefox!

So thats It!

So to summarize!

1}Search for any keyword

2}Select those which has more then 1000 Exact searches

3}Check if the Competion is low

4}Find the average PR

5}If the average PR is less then 3,go for it

6}Check the Average CPC

7}CHoose Keywords which has CPC greater then 1$

Hope so this indetail post about Keyword Research would help you in Finding the Micro Niche sites and Good keywords for your sites!

Do me a favour! share this post as much as you can!

Just to rectify you a bit, the Column Competition in the Adwords Keyword tools does not mean search engine competition it actually signifies the amount of Adwords advertisers who are competing for that keyword. The higher the competition means the higher the numbers of advertisers although May or May not mean a high search engine competition.

    And what about content?
Finding out the ‘least’ competitive keyword and ‘highly’ searched keyword is not enough in the post-Panda and post-Penguin days of SEO.
Before even thinking about the keywords, a newbie should first understand the importance of content. Unless you have a solid content strategy, these keyword researches hold very little value. On the other hand, if you already have a rock solid content strategy, then finding out keywords becomes a cake-walk.
Though nicely researched post, I think such methods of finding keywords first and deciding about content later is bad.
