10 ways to speed up Your Torrent download

You might have sometime wondered, why my direct File download speed is faster then torrent downloads even if the the Seeder’s & leecher’s health is good enough?

If you want to know how just by changing few things, u can download torrents faster then readon………

1}Choosing the right p2p sharing client

There are many P2P sharing client available on the web for free, like bit-torrent{the inventor of P2P clients},transmission,U-torrent,wikipedia lists almost 70 of them,

In this example I would be using U-torrent as my P2P shareing client

2}Secondly check your ISP maximum download speed,

This is where your most of the torrent file download would be decide,if you are unsure about ur maximum download & upload speed of your ISP,

You can use this free tool speedtest to check your maximum download & upload speed,

there are many others which provide the same service for free, but I suggest our users to use the above tool,

3}Add the program in windows firewall exception

Firewalls can block all incoming U-torrents connections coming through. To ensure otherwise, a firewall should be manually configured to accept the connections and let it through the client. Windows XP has the Windows Firewall. Configure the firewall installed to accept the connections by checking the P2P sahring client on the allowed list i.e.Options – Preferences ““ Connection – check Add uTorrent to Windows Firewall. Also, check the Windows Firewall exception (if you keep it enabled) in your client too. Shutting down the firewall is not recommended as it leaves the computer open to attack.41 10 ways to speed up Your Torrent download

4}Use different ports.

Normally every P2P sharing client come with the default port between 6210-6950,but Ports numbered above 10000 is suggested,

ISPs throttle traffic on these ports as P2P sharing involves high bandwidth usage. It’s easy to configure a different port in your torrent client. Use some number above 10000 to get around ISPs and also avoid problems with other applications. By default, the uTorrent port is randomized each time it starts. Set a specific port by not enabling the Randomize Port setting.

5} Minimize your upload rate

A P2P sharing network involves sharing the same file,But an unlimited upload{0 by default in U-torrent means unlimited} rate would also affect your download speed too,

Using the speed tests, find out your maximum upload speed and then set your Global Upload Rate in uTorrent to about 80% of your maximum upload speed. You can also try varying your upload speeds ““ keep it high initially and then gradually bring it down towards the middle of the download.

Note: Mind the speed units ““ it may be given in kilobits per second (kb/sec) orkilobytes per second (kB/sec). 1 kilobyte = 8 kilobit

51 10 ways to speed up Your Torrent downloadYou can see that as my speed of the ISP is 512KBs,I have kept my Upload speed about 80% of the upload speed

6}Tweaking with Protocol Encryption

Many ISP’s including the Big Brothers constrict the use of bandwidth,& hence slow the download speed,

To overcome this constriction we enable protocol Encryption in P2P sahring client, which By default are disabled 6 10 ways to speed up Your Torrent download

With protocol encryption, ISPs find it difficult if not impossible to detect that the traffic is coming from BitTorrent. Experiment with enabled, disabled and forced options because you could be getting better speeds with encryption disabled. Non-encryption makes a torrent connection compatible with someone who is not using encryption but as a minus it makes the torrent detectable to an ISP with a bandwidth restricting policy.

7}Experimenting with Bandwidth & Connection

Your P2P client’s settings options will let you enter figures for ““

Global maximum number of connections gives the maximum number of connections that a BitTorrent client can make for any P2P exchange. Setting this too high does NOT mean higher speeds. Setting it too high would take up useless bandwidth and too low a figure would miss out on peers. For my 512kbps connection, I have a setting of 180.

Maximum number of connected peers per torrent gives the maximum number of peers that a BitTorrent client can connect to for any P2P exchange. Experiment by setting this number close to the available peers for a particular torrent. For my 512kbps connection, I have a default setting of 100.

Number of upload slots per torrent gives the maximum number of peers that a BitTorrent client will upload to for any P2P exchange. A low setting may affect downloads. For my 512kbps connection, I have a setting of 47 10 ways to speed up Your Torrent download

8} Hack the max TCP connections

If you’re on XP sp2, your TCP connections are limited to a maximum of 10. This seriously hurts your downloading speed because it wont let you connect to a high amount of ip numbers. It is supposed to slow down viruses because their spreading strategy is to connect to a high amount of ip numbers, but it also cripples your torrent downloads.
A nice way to fix this is to download this patch, it allows you to set the maximum allowed connections to any number you want. Any number between 50 and 100 is ok

After running the patch, you have to set the number of connections in your torrent client. For example, in uTorrent go to Options ““ Preferences ““ Advanced – net.max_halfopen. Set any number from 50 to 100. But see that net.max_halfopen is setlower than the value set in TCPIP.SYS. Always check if it is still patched because Windows updates sometimes overwrite it.

9}TCP Optimizer

Download this free software utility and apply the optimal settings, it will apply the most appropriate setting of your Internet connection. You can download this software from here.

10}Common sense things

Download only those torrents which has high seeders’ & leacher’s,& every torrent gives us the chance to select which files from the download You want to download,so from that you can uncheck the unnecessary files.

CONCLUSION

So,this way we can speed up our torrent download,

if you do know any other methods,Do comment below,we would then update this list & your name would be included below your method..

I guess if you experience the slowdown while downloading it depends on the speed of your internet connection.

Thanks a lot for this article. I was downloading at speeds of 30kbps for a single 6GB file on my 3mbps connection. I tried everything everything on this article and now the download speed has increased upto 5 times!
My advice to people who try out these settings is that use outgoing encryption only if you know for sure that your ISP is using compression (you can know by testing your download speed on dslreports.com, the site will display a warning about compression). If you use encryption when there is no compression your download speeds might reduce drastically.

  • Backing it Up

As we become more digital our memories become digital too. All our images, files and music are saved on our PC and in most cases on our PC only. Users who are tech oriented may have back their files up to an external hard drive which is good but it doesn't have the benefits of an online backup service. Any user can take advantage of such a service assuring the that their sensitive information is never lost.
